A thymic carcinoid tumour causing Zollinger-Ellison and Cushing's syndromes due to ectopic ACTH and gastrin secretion.

چکیده
Cushings’s syndrome due to ectopic adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH) secretion was first described nearly a century ago by Hurst Brown. Bronchial carcinomas, usually bronchial carcinoids, were the first to be described and continue to be the leading cause of the ectopic ACTH syndrome; however, thymic carcinoids account for approximately 10% of cases. The Zollinger Ellison syndrome, excessive gastrin secretion from a neuroendcorine tumour, has been described as exclusively due to neuroendocrine tumours of entero-pancreatic origin, while secretion of gastrin from a thymic carcinoid tumour has not been reported to our knowledge. We report a unique case of a 34-year-old woman with ACTH-dependent Cushing’s syndrome and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome due to a thymic carcinoid tumour. caSe report

Primary liver carcinoid tumour with a Zollinger Ellison syndrome - an unusual diagnosis: a case report
Carcinoids are neuroendocrine tumours which may secrete hormones like gastrin, insulin, ACTH, etc. Liver is a common site for metastasis of carcinoid origin and an unusual site for a primary carcinoid tumour to arise. We present the case of a 51-year-old Caucasian man with diarrhoea, weight loss, duodenum ulcers and a liver mass in ultrasonography. A primary hepatic carcinoid tumour with a Zolli...
متن کاملNeuroendocrine islet cell tumour producing gastrin and ACTH in a patient with calcifying chronic pancreatitis.
A patient with a calcifying chronic pancreatitis was found to have a neuroendocrine islet cell tumour (a previously unreported association). The tumour secreted both gastrin and ACTH leading to clinical manifestations of both the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and Cushing's syndrome.
متن کاملCushing's Syndrome due to Ectopic ACTH from Bronchial Carcinoid: A Case Report and Review
Despite advances in analytic and imaging techniques, the syndrome of ectopic adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) secretion from a tumour resulting in Cushing's syndrome continues to pose difficult diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Dynamic testing may be equivocal and radiology indeterminate. We report a patient presenting with Cushing's syndrome associated with ectopic ACTH secretion from ...
متن کاملEctopic Cushing's syndrome and pulmonary carcinoid tumour identified by [11tIn-DTPA-D-Phel] octreotide
Accepted 23 July 1997 Summary The differential diagnosis and management of Cushing's syndrome remain difficult, particularly for ectopic adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) syndromes resulting from small bronchial carcinoids. We report the case of a 41-year-old man with ectopic ACTH-dependent Cushing's syndrome. Two computed tomography scans of the thorax were normal and magnetic resonance imaging ofthe...
